They Might Be Giants Boston Concert reviews
Madonna wasn't worth it
The concert started at 8 PM, with They Might Be Giants being 2.5 hours late. The DJ was not great, and after their performance, there was an hour of silence before the band came on stage - no music playing in the background.
The show was too raunchy and had excessive erotica, definitely not suitable for families. It was a mixed audience, and the parents who brought their children might have felt uncomfortable. While I don't mind a little innuendo, it went too far. The presence of a naked female dancer throughout most songs was unnecessary, though some attendees seemed to enjoy it, like the lesbians sitting behind us. The performers should consider their audience more carefully.
I found it hard to follow the songs as I didn't recognize most of them, and the lyrics were difficult to understand. The medley of "old stuff" set to a Spanish rhythm didn't do the songs justice. The performer seemed confused about the location, mixing up Kentucky with Oklahoma. Although the choreography was technically correct, there was no passion or energy in the dancing - it felt like going through the motions.
On the positive side, the stunts, sets, and props were impressive. The acrobatics on the bending poles were especially cool, and I admired the performers' skills in that act.
I was disappointed with how much I paid for the tickets ($355 * 2) as it was the most expensive concert I've attended, and also the least enjoyable. I typically go to around five concerts a year, and this one didn't meet my expectations. There are other artists who put on more flamboyant shows for a lower price. This experience has left me feeling let down by both the show and They Might Be Giants, and I won't be attending another one of their concerts.
